Client Story
He came to us as we were setting up. He smelled like sour alcohol and wore tattered, dirty clothes. A grey beard and hair bushed out under his hooded head. He asked, “Can I help?”

We had him set up the tables and chairs for our street thanksgiving meal. He took one chair at a time and placed them neatly around the table ensuring they were equally spaced. When he finished he asked me again, “Can I help?”

It came to time to serve the thanksgiving meal. After he had come through line and eaten his fill, I saw him watching the volunteers fill the plates of other hungry people and in the lights of the van I saw his eyes glistening with tears.

I went and stood next to him. He said, “You guys are wonderful! Thank you for making me feel worthwhile and valuable. Thank you for allowing me to help. It reminded me of how good it feels to give. Thank you.”
